A striking and visually rich antiquarian engraving illustrating Neptune and a wide range of marine deities, mythological sea creatures, sculptural reliefs, statues, and ancient medallions, drawn from classical Roman antiquity. This plate forms part of Bernard de Montfaucon’s monumental scholarly work *Antiquity Explained and Represented in Sculptures*, first published in the early 18th century and regarded as one of the foundational publications of modern archaeology and classical studies.
The composition presents a comprehensive visual survey of Neptune iconography: seated and standing figures of the sea god, tritons, sea monsters, marine processions, and relief fragments, interspersed with circular medallions reproducing ancient coins and gems.
