Founded by George Birlant in 1922, Geo. C. Birlant Co. (Antiques) is one of the southeast’s most gifted estate auctioneers. Early on, Birlant was asked to auction the estate of a silent film star out west. The items which did not sell were consigned to him and shipped back to Charleston. That became the nucleus for his first antique shop. In the late 1920s, George moved into a storefront at the opposite corner of King and Clifford.
