Haviland Limoges Porcelain Marseille Bowl for T.M. James
Sons Kansas City
By Limoges, Haviland
Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Haviland Limoges oval bowl features Marseille (or Schleiger 9) shape; it is decorated with elaborate floral motifs in blue, pink, light green, and mocha brown colors on both inner and outer surfaces. The bowl has complicated asymmetrical shape with elaborate textured details on both rim and the handle. Marseille shape was introduced in late 1880s and quickly become one of the most popular lines of Haviland china in 1890s. In factory catalogues this piece is often listed as a vegetable server; in contemporary tablescape it can be used as a salad, fruit, or chips bowl or a side dish serving bowl.
The bowl is marked with underglaze green factory mark "H&C* L France", dating to 1888-1886, and red overglaze decorator mark "Haviland
C* Pour T.M. James
Sons Kansas City Mo."; the decorator mark indicates that the bowl was specifically created for this Kansas City importer of fine French dinnerware...

Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Arts
Crafts Landscape Cup
Saucer, 1882-1891
By Haviland
Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
The antique set of cup and saucer was created by Charles Field Haviland and hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio. The rare, hand to find blank features a streamlined flat cup form with a sculptural detailed handle. The artist painted 3 different landscapes of lakes or large rivers, surrounded by hills with lush vegetation; 2 of the landscapes include small boats on the water. The highly detailed, beautifully executed landscapes are prominently placed on the bottom and the side of the cup and in the center of the saucer and framed with gold trim, with crisp white color of semi-translucent porcelain serving as a matting. The rims and the handle are accented with gold trim.
The pieces are marked with the green underglaze CFH/GDM marks, dating to 1882-1891, and overglaze artists initials in gold. The set is in very good antique condition with minimal wear on gold that is appropriate to its age. We are offering a set of sugar bowl and creamer, decorated by the same artist with the landscape views in the same style, and most possibly a part of the same service, in a separate listing.
The advent of Arts and Craft Movement created the notion that the aesthetic quality of everyday utilitarian objects could be improved by merit of craftsmanship, and many painters and artists felt inspired to merge their activities into decorative arts, such as ceramics, decor objects, or dinnerware. Large number of wholesale and retail firms, such as Pickard, Stouffer, or Brauer studios, and many high-end department stores that carried factory decorated Limoges's porcelain, had their own china decorating departments and produced high quality hand painted porcelain. Undecorated Haviland china...

Haviland Limoges Hand Painted Pair of Porcelain Cups
Saucers, France 1894-1931
By Haviland
Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Set of 2 demitasse cups and 2 saucers was made by Haviland
Cie in Limoges, France. The Art Deco style form of a footed cups, with 3 small ball feet, is rather rare and hard to find, especially in coffee or demitasse size. In this set the pieces were hand painted by a professional artist in a decorating studio with Victorian style motif of pink English roses. Calm light pink and green colors are accentuated by bright gold rims and gold trim on handles and ball feet; crisp white color of semi-translucent porcelain showcases the soft, delicate decor without overpowering it.
The pieces are marked with green underglaze manufacturer mark Haviland France that dates to 1894-1931. The set is in very good antique condition with minimal wear on gold that is appropriate to its age.

Franciscan by Gladding McBean El Patio Jug Carafe w/ Lid, Sea Mist Green 1930s
By Gladding, McBean, Franciscan China 1
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Vintage Art deco style carafe or jug with lid features simple, clean design, the iconic “pretzel” shaped cup handle, and high gloss turquoise glaze. It's a part of El Patio line, attributed to Mary Grant, the first dinnerware line produced by Gladding McBean under their Franciscan Pottery division in 1934. The glaze color, Glacial Blue, is one of the first 8 glaze colorways for the line. El Patio line had three versions of the carafe – one with a wooden handle, one with a ceramic handle, and another with a metal holder; this carafe has the build-in ceramic handle, resulting in streamlined, monochromatic look.
The carafe is marked on the bottom with the oval GMCB mark that was in use from 1934 to 1938. The mark dates the piece to the earliest years of the production of El Patio, one of the five most important California solid colored dinnerware lines of the 1930s, alongside Pacific Hostessware, Bauer Ringware, Metlox 200 Series, and Vernon Kilns Early California.
The Gladding, McBean
Company, one of the biggest potteries in Southern California, was founded in 1875 in Lincoln, California. In 1934 the company began the manufacture of dinnerware and art ware under the trade name Franciscan Ware...

Haviland Limoges Butterfly Handled Cup and saucer set, 1879-1889, Aesthetic
By Haviland
Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Cup and saucer set by Haviland
Cie is decorated in Aesthetic style, combining elements of 3 different patterns. Meadow Visitors butterflies, placed between Bracquemond style sprays of pink roses and blue cornflowers, are accentuated with grey and gold medallions in abstract design. The butterflies and roses are decorated with raised enamel accents, and the butterfly shaped handle is outlined with delicate gold veins, tracing the wing pattern. The cup is 2.12" tall and 3.5" wide at the rim; the saucer is 5.65" in diameter.
Set uses butterfly handled blank that was in production for relatively short time; factory decorated pieces are rather rare due to limited supply and fragility of the cups. This set is marked with the blue donut-shaped decorator mark, used in 1879-1889, on both cup and saucer, and underglaze green manufacturer marks: H&C on the cup, dating it 1876-1879, and H&C/L on the saucer, dating it 1876-1889.
Examples of similar decorations, utilizing abstract border designs instead of medallions on china with Meadow Visitors decor, can be seen in Haviland China...

Haviland Limoges Porcelain Fleurs Parisiennes Tureen, 1887-1889
By Haviland
Co.
Located in Clifton Springs, NY
Antique hand painted and hand decorated small tureen by Haviland in the Fleurs Parisiennes pattern on Cannele blank measures 3.1" and 8.5" with 5.4" opening. The back-marks on the bottom are H&C*/Depose underglaze mark, dating back to 1887, and the circular Haviland Limoges decorator/overglaze mark (mark g, according to Haviland's Collectors International Foundation reference sheet) in brown (color indicates premium decor pieces on Haviland porcelain made in that period), dating back to 1879-1889.
Cannele blank ("fluted"), influenced by traditional Japanese bowl shape called "kaki" or "chrysanthemum", was one of the new blanks created in 1880-1890s by Haviland's artists at the peak of Japonisme movement, after European artists and artisans become exposed to Japanese art. Cannele was hugely popular at the time and won the Grand Prix of 1889 Paris's World Fair. The Fleurs Parisiennes is one of the less common Haviland patterns...
