Gina Parr, Sol, Contemporary Art, Limited Edition Photographic Print, Art Online
By Gina Parr
Located in Deddington, GB
When she is traveling and away from her painting studio, Parr uses a camera as her way of ‘painting’ whilst on the move, Often mistaken as reproductions of her paintings, her photographs are in fact Original Limited Edition pieces.
Habana Series Cuba 2016 was produced, whilst the Artist scoured each street of Old Havana, Cuba in January 2016. Photographed because of their inherent illusion of horizon and form, these chance marks, stains, colours and textures on walls and other surfaces, some of which have partly been laid down by others by accident or with previous intent, become chimerical worlds and fictional places. The photographs, which Parr has named after where they were taken, further confirm things not being as they seem, a pictured utopia found in the still squalid but reforming streets of Havana, Cuba.
Discover original abstract paintings by Gina Parr online with Wychwood Art and in their Oxfordshire Art Gallery. Gina Parr works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections Worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston's Children's Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London. Originally trained as a Fine Artist, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study Set...

Monochromatic #03 is part of a series of photographs entitled Monochromatic by Cristian Stefanescu. This black and white abstract geometry series is presenting a dialogue with the elements of perceptions and space. Seeing is unconscious using our senses, our intellect and our emotions in order to interpret the world around us according to our own personality, frame of reference or system of beliefs.
I like to use as starting point the elements already created in our reality, fragments of nature or made by human hand. I like to restructure the images I am taking, by altering the angles and relative lengths, joining structures or spatial symbols into a combined representation of matter, just as I like to reorganise my thoughts, in order to be able to change my interpretation, or better say my perception and while doing so I add new forms or perspectives to each thought.
Cristian Stefanescu, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Oxford based artist Cristian Stefanescu was born in 1968 in Bucharest. He obtained an MSc degree in 1992 at the Technical University of Construction Bucharest, specialisation in Water and Wastewater Treatment followed by the second MSc in 1994 obtained at University of Liège, specialisation in Groundwater Engineering. After having spent more than a decade of his life teaching at the Technical University of Construction Bucharest, Cristian moved from academia to photography working in fashion industry. The passion for photography developed in the early years of college and became a constant element of his life. After long and constant collaborations with fashion brands in Romania, in 2018 Stefanescu moved to London to open his own studio. Photography was born black and white and he chose to continue this tradition, while working on evolving the visual aesthetics of this raw art form rendering his believes. Cristian Stefanescu’s distinctive monochrome photographs are an exploration into the psychological and metaphysical. He captures nature or buildings in specific moments in time – through highly visual heartbreakingly dark images often overlapped with low-contrast minimal landscapes – to create works that stretch the idea of a hypothetical time. His photo installations exist in dialogue with the elements and perceptions of space and time. “Seeing is unconscious using our senses, our intellect and our emotions in order to interpret the world around us according to our own personality, frame of reference or system of beliefs.” he has said. “I like to use as starting point the elements already created in our reality, fragments of nature or made by human hand. This is perhaps why I love photography, because it is simply a visual capture of something already created in the world and is always changing through our interpretation, it is more like a reflexion of our thoughts.” Always preferring to focus on the space rather than its subjects Stefanescu is obsessive about the contrast of his photography, in order to channel the intensity of light and texture of the storied buildings or nature elements. He documents concrete buildings, using the subject as representative for its physical referents, while considering metaphorically the world as the concrete representation of our emotions. Concrete thinking requires facts and representation about everyday life, palpable objects in a tree dimensional world. Stefanescu uses his photographs to deconstruct and alter reality in order to obtain abstract images, since by definition the abstract thinking involves a mental process and an abstract object does not exist in time or space, but rather exists as a thought, as an idea. “I use art in a reversed process of creation. I believe thought forms what our eyes can see, so I take what was already created by the thought of another and I try to place it back into what is known forever in the mind” he has said. Cristian Stefanescu believes in the energy of every being, of each object or nature element. He upholds that photography renders the ineffable combination of the object’s energy and the photographer’s one while taking a picture. And what is the energy of a photograph? Is it the energy of the space that is framed in the viewfinder, is it the energy of the photographer? I think it is an ineffable combination of the photographer’s energy when he pressed the shutter button and everything that forms the energy of the photographed space...

She Disappeared into Complete Silence (AD14558) - large abstract photograph
By Mona Kuhn
Located in San Francisco, CA
In the series 'She Disappeared into Complete Silence' (2014) Mona Kuhn takes a new direction into abstraction. She turns to a highly austere and restrained reductionist geometry and distilled formal purity, connecting the interior to the exterior, the visible to the hidden. These reflections cause one to linger, as they merge to create a dynamic equilibrium of tension, spaces and rythms.

About the artist
Acclaimed for her contemporary depictions, Kuhn is considered a leading artist in the world of figurative discourse. Throughout a career spanning more than twenty years, the underlying theme of her work is her reflection on humanity’s longing for spiritual connection and solidarity. As she solidified her photographic style, Kuhn created a notable approach to the nude by developing friendships with her subjects, and employing a range of playful visual strategies that use natural light and minimalist settings to evoke a sublime sense of comfort between the human figure and its environment. Her work is natural, restful, and a reinterpretation of the nude in the canon of contemporary art.
For the past two decades, the Los-Angeles based artist's works have been shown steadily, revealing an astonishing consistency in technique, of subject and of purpose. In 2001, Kuhn’s photographs were first seen by an influential audience during the exhibition at Charles Cowles Gallery in Chelsea, New York. Kuhn’s distinct aesthetic has propelled her as one of the most collectible contemporary art photographers—her work is in private and public collections worldwide and she is represented by galleries across the United States, Europe and Asia.
Kuhn was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969, of German descent. In 1989, Kuhn moved to the US and earned her BA from The Ohio State University, before furthering her studies at the San Francisco Art Institute. She is currently an independent scholar at The Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Occasionally, Mona teaches at UCLA and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Mona Kuhn’s first monograph, Photographs, was debuted by Steidl in 2004; followed by Evidence (2007), Native (2010), Bordeaux Series (2011), Private (2014), and She Disappeared into Complete Silence (2018/19). In addition, Kuhn's monograph titled Bushes and Succulents has been published by Stanley/Barker Editions, with a debut at Jeu de Paume in Paris, In 2021, Thames & Hudson published a career retrospective titled Works. Kuhn's most recent publication Kings Road with Steidl accompanies a multi-dimensional museum traveling exhibition shown in Europe and the US.
Mona Kuhn’s work is in private and public collections worldwide, including The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Hammer Museum, Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the Kiyosato Museum in Japan. Kuhn's work has been exhibited at The Louvre Museum and Le Bal in Paris; The Whitechapel Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts in London; Musée de l’Elysée in Switzerland; Leopold Museum in Vienna Austria, The Polygon Gallery in Vancouver Canada, Taipei Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan and Australian Centre for Photography. Mona Kuhn lives and works in Los Angeles.
