Plato's Allegory of the Cave represents the human condition as that of prisoners who see only shadows, mistaking them for reality. One of them breaks free, discovers the truth in the light of the sun, and upon returning is met with hostility by the still-chained companions. This metaphor reflects the ignorance and passivity of the masses, kept under control by the dominant powers. Contemporary society, dominated by the nuclear threat, lives in a state of precarious equilibrium that stifles change. The artwork “Platomico” by the artist LBS blends Platonic ideas with the reality of atomic power, depicting a mushroom cloud on a golden earth to symbolize the tension between nuclear destructiveness and knowledge. Only through the pursuit of truth and overcoming fear can we aspire to a more enlightened and free society.
LBS (A.K.A. Bruno Salvatore Latella), a visual artist born in Reggio Calabria in 1999, graduated with a Master's Degree in Primary Education Sciences. From classical music to visual art, LBS uniquely combines pedagogical humanities studies with his artistic production, transforming ideas and visions into captivating works of art. Positioned at the intersection of pedagogy and artivism, LBS has quickly gained notoriety, collecting prestigious awards. His powerful and socially critical street art has received widespread recognition and appearances in national media.
