Quinze Dessins de Durer a Dufy Appartenant aux Collections des Musees Nationaux, issued in 1968, represents a landmark achievement in Parisian printmaking devoted to the faithful translation of historic master drawings into modern pochoir and lithographic form. Conceived and published by Daniel Jacomet in collaboration with Editions Artistiques et Documentaires, the album inaugurated a series dedicated to rendering canonical drawings with extraordinary precision, respecting line weight, tonal subtlety, and the original spirit of each work. Jacomets atelier was internationally renowned for its technical rigor and scholarly approach, bridging museum collections and contemporary print culture through meticulous craftsmanship. Drawing together works spanning centuries, from Albrecht Durer to Raoul Dufy, the album reflects a curatorial ambition rooted in pedagogy, preservation, and aesthetic continuity. Produced in strictly limited examples, including a small number outside the trade, the album exemplifies the highest standards of mid twentieth century Parisian printmaking and remains valued for its role in transmitting the legacy of master draughtsmanship to collectors, institutions, and scholars. About the Artist: Annibale Carracci (1560–1609) was an Italian painter and draughtsman whose sweeping reform of late sixteenth century art redirected the course of European painting and laid the intellectual, formal, and emotional foundations of the Baroque through a masterful synthesis of naturalism, classical harmony, and humanist clarity, a legacy whose structural rigor and visual intelligence can be conceptually traced even into the thinking of later modern innovators such as Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Alberto Giacometti, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, Wassily Kandinsky, Marcel Duchamp, and Man Ray. Born in Bologna, Carracci, together with his cousins Agostino and Ludovico, founded the Accademia degli Incamminati, a revolutionary academy that rejected the artificial excesses of late Mannerism in favor of direct observation from life, rigorous drawing, anatomical study, and deep engagement with the Old Masters, permanently redefining artistic education throughout Europe. Drawing inspiration from Raphaels compositional balance, Michelangelos sculptural power, Correggios sensual naturalism, and the chromatic richness of Titian and Venetian painting, Annibale forged a visual language that united ideal beauty with vivid realism, psychological depth, and dynamic movement. His monumental fresco decoration of the Farnese Gallery in Rome stands among the supreme achievements of Western art, combining mythological grandeur, illusionistic architecture, rhythmic figuration, and intellectual wit in a manner that established a new paradigm for narrative and decorative painting. Carraccis work decisively shaped the emergence of Baroque art and directly influenced generations of artists including Peter Paul Rubens, Guido Reni, Domenichino, Francesco Albani, Giovanni Lanfranco, and Nicolas Poussin, while his insistence on clarity, structure, and emotional truth continued to inform European painting for centuries. His enduring cultural and market significance is reflected in his highest auction record, achieved in January 2005 when a major painting sold for approximately 6.3 million USD at Sothebys New York.
