The painting was created on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, at the end of the day, when the light of the setting sun bathes the shoreline and rocks in soft golden and ochre tones. At this moment, the bright blue sky is reflected in a small saltwater pool formed near the ocean.
This pool is a rare and unusual natural phenomenon. A high reef wall separates the ocean from the shore, allowing seawater to slowly filter through sand and rocks, filling a natural depression. Depending on the tides, the pool changes its shape several times a day—sometimes shrinking to a small mirror of water, sometimes expanding to a noticeably larger size.
The location is hidden from tourist paths and is known mostly to local residents. During strong storms, when approaching the open ocean is impossible, people come here to swim in the warm, calm saltwater. Small fish and crabs live in the pool, and its surface constantly changes due to reflections of the sky and fast-moving clouds.
The painting is executed in a purely impressionistic manner, with thick, expressive brushstrokes, allowing the artist to capture the continuously changing state of light, water, and air.

Daria grew up in a family of professional artists, her mother being a renowned designer and lead doll artist of the Soviet Union. Since 1997, Daria has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, and since 1998, a member of the International Union of Journalists.
She has taught at the Russian-Italian Art School Perotti and the Correspondence People's University of Arts. She has conducted numerous workshops both in Russia and abroad, as well as team-building activities for companies such as Harpers Bazaar, Mercedes, and Coca-Cola.
Daria has participated in international artist residencies in such countries as Bosnia, France, and Italy. She is a participant in many Russian and international art fairs, competitions, and exhibitions. Currently, she collaborates with galleries in Hawaii and California.
Her works are held in several Russian museums, as well as in private collections both in Russia and abroad. 2025 her painting "Big Storm" won the first prize in the art competition of the Plein Air Magazine in US.
