The painting was created on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, during the pre-sunset hours — a time of day the artist especially values for its rich and complex color transitions. As the sun lowers, the light softens, and the sky and clouds take on deep, luminous tones that are vividly reflected in the water.
The scene depicts a small saltwater pool formed near the ocean. Behind the coastal rocks lies the open sea, but a high reef barrier separates it from the shore. Seawater slowly filters through sand and stone, filling a natural depression and creating this calm, sheltered body of water. Depending on the tides, the pool changes size several times a day, sometimes shrinking, sometimes expanding noticeably.
This location is hidden from tourist routes and is known primarily to local residents. During periods of strong surf or storms, when approaching the open ocean becomes dangerous, the pool remains warm and tranquil. Small fish and crabs inhabit the water, while the surface constantly shifts with reflections of the sky and fast-moving clouds.
A small red search helicopter is visible in the sky above the shore. Such helicopters regularly patrol the coastline, scanning the ocean for sharks. When sharks are detected, warning announcements are broadcast along the beaches, asking swimmers to exit the water — a familiar and everyday reality for those who live on the island.

Daria Molostnova lives and works in Hawaii, where she discovered the true beauty of the surrounding world. Her paintings reflect the local reality, expressed through her personal cultural code. A graduate of the Russian State University of Design and Applied Arts named Stroganoff, she earned her master's degree, blending the traditions of classical education with a contemporary artistic perspective.
Daria grew up in a family of professional artists, her mother being a renowned designer and lead doll artist of the Soviet Union. Since 1997, Daria has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, and since 1998, a member of the International Union of Journalists.
She has taught at the Russian-Italian Art School Perotti and the Correspondence People's University of Arts. She has conducted numerous workshops both in Russia and abroad, as well as team-building activities for companies such as Harpers Bazaar, Mercedes, and Coca-Cola.
Daria has participated in international artist residencies in such countries as Bosnia, France, and Italy. She is a participant in many Russian and international art fairs, competitions, and exhibitions. Currently, she collaborates with galleries in Hawaii and California.
Her works are held in several Russian museums, as well as in private collections both in Russia and abroad. 2025 her painting "Big Storm" won the first prize in the art competition of the Plein Air Magazine in US.
