Acerca del artículo

Powwow Gold Powwow Ceremony Oklahoma Traditional Dance 10" x 8" Native American " Oklahoma’s Annual Red Earth Pow Wow brings together several tribes to share ceremony and traditional dance. Photography is permitted and I composed this by combining several elements in a family scene." Powwows are celebrations of Native American culture, history, and community through traditional dancing, singing, music, food, and art. They are a time for people to gather, socialize, and honor their heritage, and can also include religious or spiritual significance such as naming ceremonies or honoring veterans. Cultural and social celebration: Powwows bring together different tribes and families to share their culture, renew friendships, and meet new people. They can be social events focused on community bonding, or competitive events where dancers perform for prizes and recognition. Cultural expression: They are a vibrant display of Indigenous heritage, featuring intricate regalia, rhythmic drumming, and spirited dancing. Dancers express themselves through various styles, like Men's Traditional Dancer or Men's Grass Dance. Spiritual and religious significance: Many powwows have religious components, including ceremonies for naming people or honoring things like dropped eagle feathers. They are also a way to carry on ancestral traditions and can be a form of prayer and thanks. Honoring and giving: Powwows often include special honor dances for elders or outstanding young people, and sometimes feature "give-aways," where families give gifts to celebrate a special occasion or honor a loved one. V....Vaughan is known for impressionist paintings of wildlife, western themes, scenes in Italy, France and all things Texas . Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Gadsen Alabama Museum of Art, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art (in NE) and the Great Plains Art Museum at the University of Nebraska, as well as in countless private collections. She is a dedicated blogger and teacher of art! Since 2021, she has conducted yearly workshops at a castle in France, where artists get to live and enjoy art making and life in a 12th century castle all to themselves. A lifelong Texan, Vaughan has lived her lifetime in the Austin area of Central Texas. As a child, she exhibited a love of making art and played the role of the creative one among the seven children in her family. She began a graphic arts career at 16, first designing for the businesses owned by her siblings but eventually rising to creative director at several Austin area agencies. “My big family always conveyed to me that my art was a God-given talent,” she says. “Somehow that made me feel that it was something I was supposed to do. This gave me permission to pursue it.” Vaughan attended college on athletic scholarship, though she filled her schedule with art classes and subsequently secured an internship at an advertising agency. That introduction to the corporate world set her off in a new direction—she left school to parlay the summer job into a full-time position. She continued to work as a commercial artist for several years, winning prestigious ADDY Awards and working on high-profile accounts including Samsung, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, RockSports and Harcourt Publishing. Marriage and children prompted her move into free-lance agency work, illustration, design and personal projects. Her most notable efforts have included “Big Fun Maps”, RockSports T-Shirt lines of sports designs, and as a fine art painter, and instructor. Her renowned solo exhibit, "Last Year on the Farm” traveled the USA in 2010 and received national exposure. “I paint because it’s the best way I know to communicate, study, and SHARE the many wonders of creation”. Her paintings are part of the permanent collection of the Gadsen Museum of Art, the Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art and the Great Plains Art Museum as well as in countless private collections. Also shown are several other paintings by Virginia Vaughan available.
