Olof Arborelius was a Swedish folk life and landscape painter, and he served as a Professor at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm from 1902 to 1909. Trained in the academic tradition of the Düsseldorf school, he later aligned with Sweden’s progressive Opponents movement of the 1880s and drew influence from the French Barbizon school of plein-air naturalism. While he never fully embraced the Impressionist style, Arborelius adopted the “free realism” of his contemporaries and gradually developed a clearer, more vibrant palette in his later works.
