Acerca del artículo

Exceptional and highly sophisticated Italian mid-century freestanding corner bookcase with integrated desk, produced in the 1950s and attributable to the design language of leading figures such as Osvaldo Borsani, Vittorio Dassi, or Paolo Buffa. Conceived as a single, unified architectural composition, this rare piece exemplifies the refined versatility and innovative spirit of post-war Italian design. Designed to fit seamlessly into a corner while remaining completely self-supporting, the structure is solid, well-balanced, and easy to assemble. The exterior is enriched with elegant slatted detailing, including the distinctive grissinatura finish, which adds rhythm, texture, and visual depth to the overall design. The bookcase offers a highly functional and well-organized layout, featuring numerous open shelves ideal for displaying books, art objects, and decorative pieces, alongside several lockable cabinets with internal shelving located in the lower section. At the center of the left side, two adjacent compartments introduce an unexpected and refined design element. The first compartment is fitted with a hinged door decorated with an original framed artwork protected by glass, signed and dated Eugenio Rossi, 1956. Behind the door, a fully mirrored bar cabinet is revealed, complete with an internal shelf and mirrored panels on all sides, creating a luminous and theatrical effect. The second compartment features two sliding glass doors opening to additional interior shelves, ideal for storage or display. The integrated writing desk is elegantly defined by a slatted perimeter detail (grissinatura), further emphasizing the continuity of design throughout the piece. The desk is topped with an original black glass surface and is equipped with three lockable drawers located on the lower right side, offering practical storage while maintaining a clean and balanced appearance. The piece is in very good original vintage condition, showing no signs of structural damage and having undergone no prior restoration. All elements remain solid and functional, preserving the authenticity and integrity of the original design. A rare and highly versatile example of Italian mid-century modern furniture, this freestanding corner bookcase with desk is ideally suited for refined residential interiors or design-oriented professional spaces, serving as both a functional workspace and a striking architectural statement.
