This detailed antiquarian engraving presents a carefully curated selection of mythological reliefs, statues, and ancient sculptural compositions associated with Apollo and the classical pantheon. Issued as part of Bernard de Montfaucon’s seminal work Antiquity Explained and Represented in Sculptures, published in 1721, the plate reflects the early Enlightenment ambition to systematically document and interpret the material culture of ancient Greece and Rome.

At the top, reclining and seated mythological figures appear in relief-like settings, after celebrated antique marbles recorded in Roman collections such as those of the Maffei and Spon families.
