A large magnificent landscape painting in a golden wooden frame. The scene shows a mountainous landscape with a bright, green meadow in the foreground, dark green forests and with towering blue-gray mountains in the background under a partly cloudy sky. The painting uses broad, expressive brushstrokes and a rich color palette, contributing to a vivid yet slightly impressionistic style. It features the artists signature on the right corner and a handwritten inscription 'Pfeifle' on the back.
Impressionism emerged in the second half of the 19th century and was particularly influential in painting. Impressionism originated in France, where artists such as Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas and Camille Pissarro broke new ground in depicting their impressions of the world. The central concern of the Impressionists was to capture the fleeting moment, the play of light and the atmosphere of an instant - the focus was no longer on the exact representation of reality, but on subjective perception. Typical of Impressionist paintings are bright colors, visible brushstrokes and painting outdoors in order to capture natural light conditions as directly as possible.
