About the Item
An exquisite example of the intricate craftsmanship of the late 19th and early 20th century in the region of Central Asia. This museum worthy wedding belt is attributed to the Turkmen tribe of the Teke people from the modern day Turkmenistan region. The Teke are the largest tribe in Turkmenistan and they are known for their beautiful workmanship. The belt is adorned with six inlaid carnelian stones to ward off the evil eye on the intended wearers wedding day. Handcrafted silver pendants dangle from the silver plated leather. There is a pin-hinge clasp closure. The energy a piece like this holds is palpable.
This true antique is in remarkably excellent, museum-quality condition. It has a warm patina and very mild wear patterns on the inner leather.
