About the Item
Exquisite and unique Chinese fan called the Thousand Faces, 19th century. The wooden ribs are carved with symbols and flowers. The decoration of the ribs and sandalwood sides is striking and attractive. The country style is decorated with wallpaper depicting interior and exterior palace scenes and numerous figures from the Chinese high aristocracy on both sides. The fan retains its original black lacquered wooden case with gold chinoiserie depicting traditional scenes and floral motifs. The figures' features are delicately outlined. It is covered in paper and silk painted with peonies and birds in shades of blue and orange. The exterior of the case has some very small lacquer blemishes, very insignificant in appearance.
This refined oriental piece will undoubtedly stand out in any display case or wall painting. It is also a practical and valuable item, perfect as a gift or as an acquisition for a discerning collector. Fan dimensions (open): 47 cm wide x 25 cm high.
The rod has a small gap, which is not significant for the overall look.
