Born in the province of Forlì-Cesena, the son of a shoemaker who made made-to-measure shoes, at age 14 he entered the family store and produced, together with his brother Franco, sandals that in the summer would be sold with a banquet throughout on the riviera, from Riccione to Rimini, and in the boutiques of Bologna. He opened the plant in San Mauro Pascoli in 1951. Among the first successful models, the Opanca: it was a simple but at the same time bold sandal, in which the sole curved gently around the foot, to form a whole with the upper part of the foot. shoe. In 1968, the first Sergio Rossi brand shoe was produced, thus inaugurating the brand's first official collection. According to Vogue, during the 1960s, the company "soon became synonymous with Italian quality and classic feminine design." The Sergio Rossi brand was bought in 1999 by the Gucci Group, but later both passed to the French group Kering de François Pinault. In December 2015 the Sergio Rossi brand was bought by Andrea Bonomi's Investindustrial fund.
