About the Item
A truly fabulous mid to late-1800s shagreen spectacles case, etui, still with the original folding specs inside. It's hard to know for certain if this one is made of the skin of the stingray or shark. Typically the shark shagreen is darker and dyed black rather than green. And typically very fine scale shagreen is slightly earlier and definitely easy to be certain is belly leather from the stingray. That said, this one has stood the test of time, only some slight damage to the side seam (see photo) and still just beautiful.
