Rare Civil War Era Circa 1860 Ladies Silk Lace Visiting Bodice

About the Item

Wonderful and entirely original, as found, antique Victorian Civil War era pink silk stripe flounced sleeve bodice dating to around 1860. The corsage has stripes of both white and a more peachy coloured pink silk. With a high neck collar the bodice most likely had a matching skirt. The 3/4 flounce shaped pagoda style sleeves may have had engageantes attached at one point in keeping with the fashion of the time. Amazingly the scarf/jabot has survived intact with the bodice and is shown laying flat and without in the pictures. A mixture of hand and machine sewing, it is edged in lace with a brown cotton velvet ribbon running through the lace in striking contrast. The bodice closes with hook and eye closures down the front and is fully lined in a polished cotton fabric fastening with large mother of pearl buttons. The bodice measures 23 inches long at the front and is shorter at the back at around 20 inches. It is 27 inches at the waist, with a 34 inch bust, 13 inch across the back and 22 inches on the sleeves at the longest point. In very good antique condition overall, this piece is fragile but could be worn with care. Please contact us for any other measurements or pictures. Detailed condition Report: The silk bodice is in excellent, clean unfaded condition. There is a very small hole on the right shoulder which could be easily concealed and there is a patch of stains on the right sleeve towards the back with some splitting of the silk in the stained areas. Crucially there is no underarm staining. The lace trim and velvet ribbon are near prefect as is the accompanying scarf/jabot. There are numerous but very small rust spots all over the under blouse but these could not be detected once the silk corsage is fastened. This could also be removed to fit a better range of sizes or free up movement if wearing. A lovely piece for the true collector, costumer or designer.
