About the Item

A 1940's coat by Kraus Original for Bonwit Teller in an unusual heavy wool blend fabric with the weight and drape of knitwear. Kraus Originals was the label founded by Ben Zuckerman who created American fashions that were inspired by French couturiers such as Dior and Balenciaga. This coat has a classic princess silhouette with the addition of strong 1940's shoulders, vented cuffs and a Victorian style capelet. An early modernist vibe to an otherwise old world look is created by large lucite buttons embellished with a floral style silver overlay. Fully lined in black rayon. A lovely way to add a vintage inspiration to your wardrobe. CONDITION The coat is in good vintage condition and has been professionally cleaned. There is a hole in the fabric just below the last button and shown in photograph 13. It is camouflaged by the lining and difficult to notice. The silver overlay on the lucite buttons shows some wear and loss. SIZING MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the coat best fits U.S. sizes 2 - 4 with attention to the following measurements taken with the coat buttoned closed. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4. This design would probably not fit well over multiple layers of clothing and would have been originally intended as a dress coat. Condition:
Wear consistent with age and use. Good condition with a hole in the fabric just below the last button, photograph 13. It is camouflaged by the lining and difficult to notice. Silver overlay on the lucite has wear and loss. Please see description for details.
