About the Item
Circa 1830
France
Romantic-period dandy's drape in wool-cotton twill woven in the colour of Ramoneur, a fabric known as Casimir in the fashion plates of the period. It is a slim-fitting daytime suit with a cut that follows the bust, long angled sleeves with small mittens and a fairly short, split tail. Complete with eight brown satin-covered buttons (one button damaged). Please note that there are no buttonholes, so this frac was worn open over the male bust, which must have been corseted! Fully lined in chintzy cotton twill, white on the bust (light soiling) and chimney sweep for the tail lining. No holes or major defects. Very good structural condition. Rare piece of clothing. Please note that the waistcoat and breeches shown in the photos are being sold separately.
Dimensions: Equivalent to size 48 Homme France. Front height 49 cm, back height 84 cm, shoulders 40 cm, chest 95 cm, waist 80 cm, sleeves 61 cm.
This piece has been presented at the Carnet de Bal exhibition at the Bourgoin-Jallieu Museum in 2024.
