Circa 1910-1930 China for export to Europe
An interesting example of a silk embroidered couture coat based on a Dragon robe from the Qing period in China, with a cut dating from the first third of the 20th century. Aubergine silk damask densely embroidered with Beijing stitching featuring eight badges with auspicious symbols of pheasants, peonies, and dragons. Fine gold thread embroidery applied to the cuffs. Small ermine fur collar and original chiseled brass bell buttons. Fully lined with blue cotton chintz. The quality of the Chinese embroidery is exceptional. No major flaws, stains, or holes, except for slightly weakened silk at the cuffs. A remarkable piece. Good overall condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: Equivalent to French size 36. Shoulders 17.5 inches, sleeves 19 inches, chest 35 inches, hips 39 inches.
