About the Item

The Holy Grail for any collector of vintage clothing is a hand stenciled velvet coat from Mariano Fortuny. These rare pieces were hand made and hand decorated in Venice, and they are even harder to find than the iconic pleated Delphos or Peplos gowns. This olive green silk velvet coat, in a style reminiscent of Oriental garments is stenciled in silver metallic paint with delicate floral vines around the neckline, down the center front and around the hemline and edging the sleeves and the side seams. There are larger stenciled floral motifs on the bodice and all the way around the bottom of the coat. The interior is fully lined in a muted peach silk and the distinctive round Mariano Fortuny Venice label is hand sewn at the center back. The coat is in excellent condition, the velvet is strong and there are no tears or breaks to the fabric. Measurements; Bust 50" Waist 54" Hips 60" Length 35"
