About the Item

This mink has been lovingly cared for since purchased new in NYC. Designed by legendary NY designer Adolfo, it is the highest of quality dark brown mink. It looks black in some lights. Has been stored properly in Air Conditioned mink storage. Size tag removed, but could really be worn by sizes 6- 12. Have tried it on and it loooks amazing oversized on a size 6 and very chic on a size 12 woman as well. Obtains orig owners name on inside lining. Coat has 3 hidden hook and eyes to close and an amazing collar that can be worn up or lays flat like a lapel. when closed at the neck with hook and eye, and collar flipped up, it looks very chic. Adolfo Bio: Adolfo Sardiña (1923-2021) was a Cuban-American fashion designer best known for his Chanel-inspired suits, elegant daywear, and his career as a celebrated milliner and designer for high society and First Lady Nancy Reagan. After training in Paris and New York, he opened his own millinery studio in 1962, which expanded into full couture collections in 1963 and became known for elegant, classic, and comfortable designs. He later expanded his brand to include menswear, fragrances, and other licensed products. Early life and training: Born Adolfo Sardiña in Havana, Cuba, he trained in Paris with Cristóbal Balenciaga before moving to New York in the 1950s. Rise to fame: He gained initial fame as a hat designer, winning his first Coty Award in 1955 and later becoming known as "Adolfo of Emme's". Expansion into clothing: After opening his own millinery studio in 1962, he began designing clothing, becoming famous for his elegant, Chanel-inspired suits, knitwear, and daywear. High-profile clients: His clients included many prominent women, such as the Duchess of Windsor, Gloria Vanderbilt, Babe Paley, and Nancy Reagan. Later career: He received a special Coty Award in 1969 for his contributions "from head to toe". In 1993, he moved away from custom work to focus on his licensing business, which included a wide range of products like perfume, menswear, and accessories. He continued to be influential in fashion until his death in 2021 at the age of 98.
