Rare and amazing Norma Kamali Leather Snap Trimmed Coat, OMO from the 1980's. Really striking silhouette. Kamali stayed true to her roots during her whole career, creating designs which were both avante garde and very wearable. This actual design was sold in sweat shirting fabric from a famed series that was super popular in the 1980's. This unlined leather coat would have been retailed in her store on West 56 street as it would have been too expensive for her wholesale store clients.
She often created a design and recreated it in different fabrics from high to low, such as sweat shirting, corduroy, cotton poplin to leather.
The snap tape (her signature) allows the collar and sleeves to be manipulated to create different over the top shapes. If the collar is snapped closed, it forms a huge leather tube that can be scrunched into collar. There are large shoulder pads, with leg of mutton sleeves. The label has been lost, but is recognized OMO design. Amazing belted as well, 1980's USA.
