About the Item
This Selfridges late 1950s cocktail dress in midnight blue chiffon has an exotic flavour. The ornate beadwork embellishment on the overlay beautifully juxtaposes the simplicity of the cut. The horizontal neckline above the breast is supported with delicate chiffon shoulder straps. The dress is tailored at the bodice to suit an hourglass figure and continues with a straight skirt finishing just below the knee with a central zip fastening to the reverse. The intricate floral surface design comprises of prong set rhinestones, silver rocailles, pearlescent beads and petrol spill metallic sequins. Smaller clusters of deep violet rocaille beads punctuates the fabric in what appears to be a polka dot design at a distance. This piece is in very good vintage condition with no notable flaws bar some discolour in the acetate lining of the dress under each arm that is not visible when worn. Would fit up to a US size 6-8, UK size 10-12.
