About the Item
Catherine Walker founded her namesake couturier label in 1977 with a focus on eschewing trends and designing bespoke gowns for clients. She went on to extraordinary success, creating gowns for Princess Diana, Darcey Bussell and Queen Noor of Jordan.
Designed in the late 1980s or early 1990s for The Chelsea Design Co; this flared, below the knee to calf-length dress is cut from stiffened, white waffle-textured cotton. Coordinating fabric-covered buttons secure the front and the large slit pockets. The stand-up collar and shoulder pads built into cap-sleeves create a dynamic elegance and strong feminine silhouette that made the label so popular. This elegant dress is in excellent vintage condition with no faults. Our label shot shows the dress labelled a vintage UK 12; we recommend this in modern sizing for a UK 10 - 12 or US 6-8. This dress fit our model well, she is a UK 8-10 and 5ft 11in.
