Stephen Burrows is an American fashion designer based in New York City, known for being one of the first African-American fashion designers to sell internationally and develop a mainstream, high-fashion clientele. His garments, known for their bright colors and "lettuce hem" curly-edges, became an integral part of the disco-dancing scene of the 1970s. Burrows was one of the five American designers to show at the iconic Versailles battle in 1973 when the Americans went up against the French couturiers. Throughout his career has been awarded 3 Cody awards.
This gorgeous hot pink and orange silk chiffon runway piece by Stephen Burrows is truly on fire! The marvelous magenta taffeta yoke and collar give structure to this ethereal A-line mini dress with flowing angel sleeves of hot pink chiffon. The front and back of the dress feature impressive shirring and ruffles of the same hot pink chiffon which is layered over bright orange silk. The look is complete with a long hot pink scarf that can be tied at the neck. Labeled “Size 6” with white sample tag. This piece is said to have been worn on the runway in the late 80’s - early 90’s.
