This striped cotton garden party dress was designed for Townley by Claire McCardell, who was hugely influential in bringing comfort to chic and modern clothing for women. She used the stripes to wonderful effect with the mitered, chevron pattern of the bodice directing one's attention to the face of the wearer. The fabric gathers at the neckline, and there is a keyhole opening below the attached bow tie. The stripes have a dynamic effect on the skirt, as well, with the full circle cut creating multiple arches of the various, rich colors as the skirt fabric falls. There is a metal zipper on the left side. Plus, there are pockets in both of the side seams. The bias cut, dolman sleeve construction of the bodice will accommodate various bust sizes depending on what kind of fit you like. The pattern matching is expertly done, and the pintucking on the sides of the waist is very fine. The matching fabric belt with natural leather backing completes the look. The construction of this dress makes for a very comfortable fit with a feminine and figure flattering shape. The dress is clipped to the mannequin in some photos to help show the fit, though it is not clipped in all of the photos. It is shown worn over a crinoline that is not included approximate measurements taken lying flat without stretching the fabric: shoulder to shoulder is 17" (this is an approximation due to the dolman cut) sleeve length is 11.5 - 12" (this is an approximation due to the dolman cut) underarm to underarm is 18.5 - 19" (this is an approximation due to the dolman cut) across waist is 14" across hem is 111" (full sweep is 222") shoulder to waist is 17.5" waist to hem is 30.25" Please contact us if you have any questions.

Wear consistent with age and use. very light wear, there is a drip stain near the hem that I only noticed when I measured across the hem, some discoloration to the belt (mainly on and near the buckle), it looks like the front center seam was re-stitched.
