About the Item
Elegant Eisa Ivory Silk Cloque Bell Shaped Dress, Balenciaga from the 1960's. Perfection in cut, with slightly open neckline with notched collar. A lovely princess line which curves back toward the side seam on skirt. It helps to shape the skirt and waist with the same cut. Shoulder line is gently extended to help sharpen silhouette. Self covered buttons placed at the perfect level with hand bound buttonholes.
The back has a gently shaped martingale half belt with deep inverted pleat at center. The simple minimalistic lines and stiffness of the silk cloque help to maintain the elegant bell shape of the skirt from the side seams.
Nicolas Gesquiere in a more modern era reimagined this original Balenciaga design by extending the shoulder, nipping in the waist and raising the hem decades later into a mini.
This dress is unlabeled but from a client who ordered the same fabric in a blouse (see 3 aqua blouse images at end). Unlined but completely hand finished edges within, likely a Eisa sample.
A beautiful example of a finely tuned Balenciaga design, where millimeters change the proportion and fall of a garment. 1960's Spain.
