Juli Lynne Charlot Circle Skirt Dress With Felt Flowers, C.1950

About the Item

This adorable cotton poplin two piece dress was designed C.1950 by Hollywood actress and entertainer, Juli Lynne Charlot, also known as the inventor of the poodle skirt. Ms. Charlot often designed her own stage wardrobe and during a time in her life when funds were tight, she used innovation and creativity to create a felt skirt with a novelty Christmas motif which launched her fashion career. This design consists of a top with ruched bust and a portrait neckline paired with one of Charlot's iconic novelty skirts decorated with a felt flowering vine. The goldenrod yellow fabric is the perfect background for the vibrant green vine and the white flowers accented by an orange stamen. The skirt zips at the back with a wide channeled waistband and the top zips at the side with a tiered collar and deep 'v' back. Originally retailed at I. Magnin and as eye catching today as it was in the 1950's. CONDITION First impressions are good with the cotton fabric appearing crisp and the felt flowers all intact. A closer inspection reveals age spotting throughout the cotton fabric as shown in photograph 13 and a couple of darker spots on the skirt as shown in photograph 14. There are also three holes in the green felt trim running along the bottom of the skirt, as shown in photograph 12. The top has been professionally cleaned though the skirt was freshened but not cleaned due to concern about potential color bleeds from the felt. It is truly a unique design and certainly wearable though probably best for design inspiration or those that do not mind a little 'patina' to their vintage pieces. SIZING MEASUREMENTS Marked a size 12 and best fits modern U.S. size 8 with attention to the following measurements. Juli Lynne Charlot creates a unique novelty circle skirt with felt flowers and a coordinating top in a cotton poplin all in shades of goldenrod yellow, green, white and orange.
Condition:
First impression is very good though on close inspection there are age related spots to the cotton fabric with a couple of darker spots on the skirt and a couple of holes on felt trim at hem. Please see description and cross referenced photographs.
