About the Item

This highly romantic dress was made in the late 1930s and is breathtaking quality. Evening gowns of this era are highly sought after, particularly when they’re in such rare, excellent condition. Of a floor-skimming length, this piece is crafted from inky black lace cut through with panels of sheer chiffon. The neckline is cut to a high V-shape that hints at the décolletage. Tiny snap closures in tonal black close the gathered cuffs and the side opening to aid access. The swirling, flared skirt is formed from alternating panels of lace and chiffon which create a zig-zag hemline below the hips and recall graphic motifs made popular by the Art Deco movement at the time. The theatrical bell-sleeves, puff-shoulders and peekaboo cloth make it an extremely relevant piece among today’s trends. This couture quality gown was made nearly a century ago.
