About the Item
This 1930s gold lame maxi dress would be the crowning glory for any fans of 1930s clothing, or the perfect choice for an eye-catching and wearable gown for an upcoming event. It is crafted from shimmering pale gold lamé with a beautiful organic pleated texture. Almost sweeping the floor, it has a real stand-out silhouette; ruched cloth sweeps across the neckline and bust, gathering at the collarbones and creating a shawl-like effect over the shoulders. Short puff-sleeves peep out from underneath this gathered cloth. The romantic back is detailed with a keyhole cut-out and a row of seven fabric-covered buttons with fabric loops. A hidden tonal zip fastens the dress at the bottom of the back and a hook-and-eye clasp secures the back of the neck. The bias-cut creates a timeless, body-skimming ’30s silhouette that is supremely flattering. This dress is unlined, but the reverse of the lamé cloth is smooth and comfortable against the skin.
To bring this dress back to life after 90 years of age, she has undergone some restoration in our atelier and we are very proud of the results. Originally the dress was long sleeved and we were able to preserve what was left of the fabric by creating a short sleeve design which references haute couture designs from the period 1933 - 1935. The zip was a later edition (not by us) but which we have improved the placement of. We have also redesigned the bodice, again referencing haute couture designs from the period. She is now in wonderful restored vintage condition with no flaws to the cloth save for gentle age appropriate wear - no holes, noticeable patches of tarnish or stains. There are no labels in the dress but this was originally a couture made piece so please check our measurements below. The fabric has no stretch. Our model (5ft 4in. / 163 cm) is a UK 6-8 and this dress fit her really well with plenty of room due to the bias cut for a size or two bigger.
