1940 s Ivory Satin Draped Wedding Dress With Bustle Train

Here comes the bride! And she exudes post war glamour in a 1946 ivory satin wedding gown with a form fitting bodice yielding to a draped peplum and bustle which anchors a built-in train. A row of satin covered buttons from neck to waist and French lace at the collar and cuffs are romantic details that create an old fashioned look perfect in any decade. Indeed, this dress was worn by two generations of stylish women ... first in the 1940's and years later in the 1980's ... a true heirloom beauty. The dress zips at the side with hooks on the drape and buttons under the bustle for lifting the train post ceremony (see photograph 14). Originally acquired from Wannamaker's Department Store in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. No label present. CONDITION The dress is in beautiful and very good condition with a few minor fabric flaws from wear and storage. The most noticeable, and yet subtle, is an abrasion to the satin on the bust as shown in photograph 15. There are also a few shadowy discolorations on the backside of the train which are not visible on the front side. It has been professionally cleaned and overall really makes a stunning impression. SIZING, FIT MEASUREMENTS The size is not marked though the dress is an extra small best fitting U.S. size 2 with attention to the following measurements. The bodice is particularly narrow by design with softly padded shoulders and a drop to the drape that subtly emphasizes an hourglass silhouette. Assistance to get in and out of the dress is recommended. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photographs is a size 4 and the dress was too small, not entirely zipping at the side.
