About the Item
Malcolm Starr made hugely popular evening and wedding dresses throughout the 1960s and 1970s and his collections retailed in the finest department stores throughout the USA. Simple shapes, such as shift-dresses, empire line cuts and sculptural forms, were the designer's signature, often finished with flamboyant detailing. It's pleasing to see that this dress also retains the Saks Fifth Avenue label and the ILGWU union label which dates the dress to between 1964 to 1973.
This maxi dress is tailored to a classic empire silhouette that falls to the ankle. The fabric is stunning, a thick brocade with a criss-crossing pattern, a slight sheen and a 3D texture. The wide straps give way to a cross-over neckline. Below this, the dress is shaped as an empire-line cut with soft pleating under the bust that adds an elegance typical of this era. This pretty dress is an off-white to pale cream colour and lined in tonal satin. It is secured with a hidden, tonal zip along the back.
In excellent vintage condition with no flaws of any note and ready for your big event. It has no composition or size label so please check the measurements below as the fabric has no stretch. We suggest a best fit for sizes UK 8-10 or US 4-6 with plenty of room in the hip and a fairly generous waist measurement.
