About the Item
This is a lovely ink-blue Louis Féraud Paris attributed chiffon evening dress from the 1970s. By that time The House of Féraud was well established and in 1978 the couturier won the prestigious "Golden Thimble Award". This dress comes direct from a client who purchased it in and around that same time period in Munich, Germany.
The beautiful long design features a spectacular pleat work! The entire bodice and half of the sleeves have fine flat pleats worked into the chiffon that become a design element on their own. The colour of the dress is very unusual. It has been achieved by layering a deep ink-blue semi-sheer chiffon over an iridescent ruby lining. It also gives the fabric a depth and texture that seems to change in different lights. The degree of transparency and colour opaqueness also changes when the fabric moves over itself as you move.
The vertically pleated bodice is fitted and has a deep ruffled V-neck. The waist nips in and the skirt is soft and full with slight pleating around the waistline. It swings out with lots of movement. The standout element is of course the sleeves – each ends above the elbow in two dramatic ruffles giving the dress an ethereal feel. They are unlined so that you get a touch of transparency through the pleated chiffon. A wide sash ties around the waist and is original to the dress. It closes with a center back set zipper. Unlabelled.
Excellent vintage condition. Some discolouration of the interior lining under the arms and the inside back. Slight stress areas near the interior lining seams below the bust. All does not show outside. Professionally cleaned and pressed by hand.
