Rare 1971 Ossie Clark for Quorum Black Moss-Crepe Tiered Maxi Dress with Celestial Embroidery
A rare and stunning 1970's Ossie Clark dress from the iconic Quorum line, one of Britain’s most influential designers of the era. Made from Ossie Clark’s signature black moss‑crepe, the fabric is celebrated for its luxurious weight, fluid movement, and flattering drape, creating an effortlessly elegant silhouette. The dress falls to the floor in a statuesque line, with a tiered skirt that adds volume and movement. Voluminous bishop-style sleeves taper at the cuffs, adding a romantic touch, while the back features a fabric tie that cinches the waist and enhances the flowing shape.
What sets this dress apart is its delicate celestial embroidery. Tiny crescent moons and stars in red and white thread are stitched around the neckline and trail down the front of the bodice, adding a whimsical, dreamlike quality to the sleek black canvas. This playful yet refined embellishment reflects the influence of Celia Birtwell, Clark’s longtime collaborator and muse, whose artistry brought an imaginative edge to his designs.

Very good vintage condition, with only minor discoloration on one embroidered moon under the belt.
