About the Item

With its cascading ruffle back skirt, puffed sleeves and sweetheart neckline, this gown is like a page out of Walter Plunkett’s designs for “Gone with the Wind” or Adrian’s for “Letty Lynton”. Girlish and feminine thanks to its cut, but also serious due to its color, texture and length. Ankle length gown with ruched sweetheart neckline and short puffed sleeves; contoured V waist seam. Full skirt with six tiers of ruffles from waist to hem down center back. Left side inset metal zipper closure; unlined. fabric: taffeta noteworthy: dry clean only alterations: altered by original owner to include left side metal zipper in lieu of original hook and eye closures condition: very good with three pinprick holes at rear hem measurements: neckline opening: 9 ½” across neckline plunge: 5” shoulders: 13 ½” sleeve: 10 ½” from shoulder, 1 ½” from underarm sleeve circumference: 22” at upper arm, 12” at bicep bust: 33” max waist: 26” hips: free length: 56 ½” from shoulder, 48” from underarm sweep: 130” label: no label present size: no size tag present; comparable to modern size extra small
