France
Briny coral pink silk crepe afternoon dress, probably Haute Couture and dating from the 1920s. Sleeveless dress with round neckline and very elaborate construction. Openwork blousant top with smocked straps. Back panel slightly cinched at the waist by an adjoining belt embroidered in tone-on-tone floss silk chain stitch. Attached skirt pleated at the waist with embroidered bands and bordered by a double silk tulle flounce at the bottom. No label, but a dress sewn entirely by hand with haute couture finishing touches. Underdress in silk pongee and tulle with inner bust stapling. No major flaws apart from a very slight patina and structural fragility, particularly of the linings. No holes or visible stains. Good overall condition in terms of colour and conservation for the period. Can be worn or display.
Dimensions: French size 37/38. Height 131 cm Shoulders 36 cm Chest 91 cm Waist 82 cm Hips 101 cm.
