About the Item

This enchanting wedding gown features a fairytale skirt measuring over 23 feet around but requires no suffocating undergarments to remain full and feminine. Custom made and sparing no expense in the 30s, its style is equal parts Hollywood and antebellum Regency reflecting the iconoclastic taste of its owner. It has been in storage for almost a century yet remains sturdy, wearable and beautiful despite its age. On or off-shoulder wedding gown with short, puffed sleeves and full, gathered empire bodice; sleek silhouette from waist to hip, where skirt flares to extreme fullness at hemline. Multiple rear hook and eye closures from hip to mid-back. All gown fabric fully backed in net for modesty, body and integrity; built-in China silk slip with lace hemline. fabric: silk charmeuse and lace ribbon, net noteworthy: dry clean only; *skirt is extremely heavy and will keep gown standing upright even if it falls off shoulders* repairs: replaced elastic in neckline and sleeves, reinforced weakness in satin at underarms condition: very good with extremely light weakness in some satin ribbon with no effect on wearability; a few strained loops on hook and loop closures measurements neckline: 15” across unstretched – 17” across fully stretched sleeve length: 7” from neckline, 4” from underarm sleeve circumference: 10” at upper arm bust: free waist: 26” hips: free length: 50” from underarm sweep: 283” (dress), 275” (slip) label none except tag reading “original” size: none; comparable to modern size extra small due to waist
