Circa 1910-1915 France Evening dress in blue silk chiffon printed with geometric friezes with embroidery of golden rectilinear beads from a fashion house in Lyon. High-waisted cut with asymmetrical bustier by a draped shawl effect crossed on the chest and three-quarter length sleeves in blue chiffon. Straight skirt with pendants of golden and multicolored glass beads on a champagne silk satin underskirt. Two large velvet ribbons underline the waist in the back to effect of mini drag. Provenance: Lyon wardrobe of the Schultz family. Small weaknesses in the silk of the bodice (as always for this period), otherwise no holes or stains, beautiful resistance of the blue muslin. Very good condition of color and conservation. Exhibited and catalogued at the Villa Rosemaine in 2021. Not Wearable, only for collecting or a Museum. Dimensions: presented on a mannequin of size 36 France. The metropolitan fashion houses were the most assiduous followers of the famous Parisian houses that naturally set the tone. This spectacular late 1910s - 1920 Egyptian hammered silver Assiut kaftan is a rare and extremely collectable piece. The line of the kaftan is soft and fluid with long wide set sleeves and full volumes of fabric that flare out from the bust with an ankle length hemline. The gold tinted silver-work is arranged in meticulous detail into a bold geometric textile and vertical linear design. Made to be loose fitting this sensational piece is for the serious collector and would best suit a US size 4-6, UK size 8-10 due to the petite bust measurement. In absolutely beautiful antique condition, we have counted around half a dozen tiny to small beaks in the tulle to side and back panels which in no way detract from this important antique textile. They are very hard to spot except on close inspection and are difficult to photograph. We have priced to reflect this. Sleeve measurement - 28.5" This kaftan pre-dates 1922 with the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb and the subsequent years when the fashion for all things Egyptian reached its zenith until 1926. Many later 1920s Assiut fabrics feature coptic symbols which is indicative of fabric produced for export. Circa 1915/1925 Italy / France Sleeveless dress in milky coffee silk pongee, finely pleated model "Delphos", by the famous Venetian couturier who dressed the social and artistic elite after the First World War. Side trimmings and shoulder in fine cream and dark brown Murano beads connected by a light brown cotton cord. Printed on the inside edge of one shoulder, the label indicates "Mariano Fortuny Venice".
