About the Item

An absolutely beautifully ethereal dress in a soft blueish grey with its matching cape by George Stavropoulos dating back to the 1970's. I am lost for words at this dress, it is certainly the most beautiful I have come across so far by Stavropoulous who is up there as one of my favourite vintage designers Born in Tripoli Stavropoulous was a New York based fashion designer who taking inspiration from Greek sculpture became known for his draped evening dresses and silk chiffon gowns that's quality and craftsmanship rivalled that of any Parisian Haute Couture. Launching his label in 1960 he soon had a client list that included the likes of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbra Streisand. His gowns which were almost entirely made by hand in his own atelier started at $8500 back in the late 1970's!! It was said this his gowns 'seemed to float on air' and this is just a perfect example of that. Composed of 4 layers of the lightest silk chiffon (two in pale blueish grey and two in ivory) the dress flows beautifully as you walk - light as air, the cape flowing behind! I have tried to include several movement pictures so you can see the dress in full effect. The dress has thin spaghetti straps, a V neck line, and a floral lace appliqué bust. The cape is separate, slightly sheer and closes via a singular button at the neck so that it can be worn either at the back of the neck or the front. Concealed back zip to the dress Composition: No Composition label - But the dress and cape are silk chiffon Size: No size label - estimated to be a size XS - S - but please refer to the measurements below Measurements: Bust 32" Length 54.5 Condition: This combo is in beautiful condition. On the dress there is a very small stain to the floral appliqué at the side of the bust, and a very faint mark to the front of the bust underneath the appliqué. The cape has a couple of extremely faint marks, but you would need to view it in daylight turning it up to the light to see. Worn the dress is in excellent condition and looks pristine. I have taken detailed photographs of these areas, so please do look through them
