This very rare museum worthy vintage dress was designed by renowned American fashion designer Harry Collins in the 1910's. Harry Collins was one of the first American designers who brought high fashion to the US and he helped shape the style of the American women who wanted to wear glamorous dresses. Collins was a contemporary of Lucille, Adrian, etc.. and his designed rivaled those of French designers at the time. Collins was well known for his beautiful dresses and this one is a true testament to his talent. These dresses are nearly impossible to find and this particular dress came from the estate of a socialite from Chicago who wore only the finest clothing from prominent designers. This dress is absolutely stunning with its finely pleated blue cotton voile under fine pink silk, and the dramatic rows of gorgeous mother of pearl buttons on each side and at the top of the shoulders. There is a silk sash, built in netting in the bodice and snaps and hooks and eyes underneath to connect. The dress fits our size 2 mannequin perfectly and we would say it could be worn by a size 0 or 2 comfortably. The label reads: Harry Collins New York Original Model and there are over 120 mother of pearl buttons on the dress! We also have other pieces from this estate including 2 pairs of Edwardian shoes and wonderful vintage late teens and early 1920's jackets! BUST: 32" LENGTH from top of shoulders to waist: 15" LENGTH from waist: 29" Harry Collins designed the dress that first lady Florence Harding wore to her husband's inauguration. He also wrote several books and his articles on fashion were published in several magazines. His most famous book was called "The ABC of Dress" and he was known for his passion for making dressmaking into an art. He designed for stage and screen and for many famous clients included the Dolly Sisters. We are now obsessed with him and hope to bring an appreciation for his artistry back to the fashion world! Wear consistent with age and use. The dress has a very small tear under the arm that is negligible. The blue fabric has some slight discoloration underneath the pink dress. Minor average wear, otherwise amazing condition for a dress like this!
