About the Item
1960s evening dress by Malcolm Starr in pale pink satin with beaded emellishment throughout. This consists of primarily silver beads in various shapes and sizes, the body covered with tiny seed beads, while cascading leaf-form motifs in silver bugle beads flow from neckline to mid-thigh; these are further enhanced by both clear and pink round crystals. The simple, sleeveless A-line shape features a square neckline front and back, which are bordered by two rows of beading - one of the bugle beads and one of the seed beads - as are the armholes. Back zipper. Fully lined. This dress is a prime example of Starr's early production, sumptuously beaded evening clothes of simple design. His was one of the first companies to produce and retail in Asia, particularly in Hong Kong, which was well known for its beading mastery and where this dress was manufactured.
