About the Item

Princess Irene Galitzine was born in Russia and moved to Italy as a child where she eventually studied fashion including an apprenticeship with the Fontana sisters. Her designs were effortlessly chic always with an eye for luxury and comfort. This 1960's evening dress is a fine example of her style with a sleek silhouette in a heavy silk and wool blend mint green fabric embellished by gold beading and large rhinestones. The sleeveless design zips and hooks at the back with hidden pockets and a full lining. This 1960's dress really offers a fantastic look that never goes out of style! Made for Lord Taylor under its exclusive label. Just a note on fashion history ... Lord Taylor was the first department store in the United States to carry Princess Galitzine's designs which otherwise would have been purchased from her atelier in Rome, Italy. CONDITION This dress is in fair condition and shows spotting and discoloration throughout. The fabric integrity is good and the beading appears intact and in very good condition but after many years of storage in a plastic bag ... the fabric has an allover indication of age. Though wearable, this piece is best for a collector of fashion history or as inspiration for designers primarily due to the discolorations. Please see photographs 12, 13, 14 and 15 for indications of the condition. It has been professionally hand cleaned. SIZING MEASUREMENTS The dress is marked a U.S. size 8 though it best fits a modern day size 4 with attention to the following measurements. For visual reference, the mannequin in the photograph is a size 4.
