About the Item

Circa 1940-1950 France. Chasuble for the theater by the famous French costume designer Henri Lebrun (attributed to) dating from the 1950s, when he worked with Karinska on Don Giovanni at the Avignon Festival. Henri Lebrun had his workshop at 5 Rue d'Amboise in Paris. Black silk ottoman chasuble dress with large pagoda sleeves, fastened at the back with a ribbon marked Licari from an unidentified production. Remarkable appliqué embroidery work with cream silk cords highlighted with old rose satin. Typical 1940s-1950s Chinese-inspired design. Henri Lebrun is particularly famous for the costumes he created for the Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix en Provence and the Festival d'Avignon, including Les Noses de Figaro and Le Barbier de Séville (1952). The lining is very slightly worn at the sleeve folds, which is the only flaw to be noted, as the tunic remains in very good condition in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: Equivalent to size 38-40 in France. Shoulders 50 cm, waist 76 cm, chest 92 cm, sleeves 41 cm, height 119 cm.

Leonard Paris Angel Sleeve Caftan Dress, 1970s
By Leonard
Located in Boca Raton, FL
Leonard is a glowing example of the blending of art and fashion. With one-of-a-kind prints that reflect the skilled hand of an artist, Leonard fashions draw inspiration from the prints and motifs of the textile letting that aspect of the garment to speak volumes. In line with the Middle Eastern and Japanese influences of the time, this vintage 1970s caftan dress has a stately and exquisite aura. The bodice of this dress, at an empire waist, is made from a chiffon with a watercolor abstract floral print in tonal greys, bone, and accents of vibrant red spots.
