Inspired by the famous Princess Diana “Revenge” dress. A short cocktail dress in the most beautiful burgundy iridescent soft taffeta.
Although know as a brilliant American Fashion Designer “copyist”, he was extremely talented. This dress is a master-craft of draping. It is GORGEOUS. The side bow that cascades down the leg is the perfect size. The Strapless V shape bust is the perfect shape to show off your stamens jewel necklace. A rare vintage find in lovely condition. Looks as modern now as when it was designed! This dress is a show stopper!
Victor Costa Bio:
Victor Costa is an American fashion designer known as the "King of Copycats" for creating affordable versions of high-fashion designs. His career began in Houston's Fifth Ward, where he started by designing paper dolls and prom dresses as a teenager. After studying at the Pratt Institute and in Paris, he became famous for his "line-for-line" copies of European couture, making designer fashion accessible to millions through his own company and collaborations. Costa recently published a memoir, "Copycat," detailing his life and career.
Early Life and Education: Costa was born in Houston's Fifth Ward and was inspired by Hollywood glamour from a young age. He developed his skills by sketching and sewing, eventually making prom dresses for classmates. He went on to study fashion at the Pratt Institute in New York and the École d'Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris.
Career:
He initially worked as a bridal designer in New York.
He gained fame for his "line-for-line" copies of European couture for the Suzy Perette company.
In 1975, he established his own company, Victor Costa, Inc., in Dallas, Texas.
He became widely known for making high-end fashion available to the masses at accessible prices.
He dressed celebrities and his designs were featured in shows like Dynasty and Sex and the City.
