This breathtaking 1930's red silk velvet bias cut dress, decorated with trailing silk velvet hibiscus flowers and rhinestone and glass beadwork, is a rare piece to behold. The V shaped neckline, is framed by silk chiffon shoulder straps, which are decorated with borders of silver claw set rhinestones, and silver lined glass bugle beads, composing a scattered floral design. The bias cut of the bodice, is accented by tailored darts along the bust-line, which draw the eye to the left hand side of the bodice, where the first red silk velvet hibiscus flower is positioned. The bias cut of the dress draws the eye to the elegant silhouette which draws in along the waist-line and skims the hip-line which is set off by pointed Art Deco seams along the front and back of the dress. The second hibiscus flower, drapes from along the left hand side of the waistline to the top of the hipline. The flowers are set off by silver bead and pearlescent bead centres, in a tassel design. The dress is finished with a wonderful rounded hemline, which allows for the bias cut silk velvet to drape in subtle pleats, completing this breathtaking dress in an iconic and timeless Art Deco silhouette. Measurements of the Dress Armpit to Armpit: up to 34 inches ( on the bias) Shoulder to Hem: 62 inches Waist: from 26 to 30 inches ( on the bias) Hips: from 28 inches to 42 inches ( on the bias) Size: UK 8-12 US 4-8 Closures: This dress fastens along the side with 7 press studs. Condition: This dress is in good but not perfect vintage condition. This dress has been fully restored. The Shoulder straps have been backed with soft cotton toile to strengthen the silk chiffon base and beadwork. The beadwork and rhinestone details along the shoulder straps have been fully restored. There is colour variation to the red silk velvet throughout and darker markings. These are apparent along the edges of the neckline, along the front of the décolletage and bust-line. There is a dot mark along the centre front of the dress at the height of the second hibiscus flower. Gentle age marks and colour variation ( where the velvet is darker ) are apparent along the skirt-line and back of the dress. The dress has been sympathetically darned : along the left hand side yoke joining the left hand side arm hole. In multiple areas along the hemline and a few smaller darns along the skirt-line. These have been done sympathetically and are well concealed within the lustre and pile of the silk velvet. There are small scattered pin holes along the skirt-line and bodice of the dress, these are only apparent when the dress is held up to direct sunlight. Light and natural impressions to the silk velvet, this is a natural process for velvet. Although the condition report is long, these minor details are how the dress has been restored and do not detract from the beauty or wearability of this piece. Please refer to the photographs, as they form part of the condition report. This dress has been priced accordingly.
