About the Item

This stunning vintage late 1940s/early 1950s lace gown is defined by the most romantic off-the-shoulder draped swag, which can be worn a number of ways, or removed entirely— it can snap off on either side for multiple distinct looks in one incredibly special dress. The dress's silhouette and this draped element reminds me of the iconic Edith Head Grace Kelly famously wore in 1955's To Catch a Thief (below)— it could also be worn with just one side snapped into place, so it's more loose flowing to throw over the shoulder like hers. The gown itself is stunning even without this special detail— the fitted bodice is fully boned like a corset, with the indigo lace gathered in the most flattering way, creating a tiny hourglass shape at the waist. The waistline is slightly dropped which contributes to this effect. the full skirt has a has a wide sweep, with multiple layers to lace, and a flounce at the hip, giving incredible movement. The draping attached with hidden snaps at the necklines interior, and can be worn off-the-shoulder, higher so that it looks like a halter from the front, or attached to only one side so that it's long and loose/able to be wrapped and tossed over one shoulder. The dress closes with a side zip closure Measurements: This will best fit a size X-Small or potentially Small; please refer to below measurements to be sure. Keep in mind the bodice is boned to hold you in— it's meant to be very snug! Chest: 32" (Keep in mind the bodice is boned to hold you in.) Waist: 26" hips are free Length: 51.5" from top of neckline to hem Great vintage condition, with minor wear commensurate with age. There are no particular flaws, the lace is showing very minor fading, but it presents absolutely flawlessly! (Keep in mind this dress is 80 years old!)
