Circa 1780
France
Caraco in brocaded taffeta silk dating from the french Louis XVI period. Curved cut with two crossed sides to be pinned on the front, three-quarter bent sleeves and "A l'Anglaise" cut back with pointed finish on the back. The silk is in silvered pale grey taffeta with a baroque design profusely decorated with Indian flowers. Fully lined in raw linen. Note two rings under the armpits, the only flaw to note, otherwise clean, no holes or stains. The lining was probably modified in the 18th century. Very good colour and condition.To display or to wear. Dimensions: Large size for the period. Equivalent size 38-39 in France. Height 45 cm, shoulders 38 cm, waist 80 cm, sleeves 31 cm, chest 90-95 cm.
