Edwardian Bridal Trousseau Pink Silk Pintuck Step-In Romper Teddy - L, 1910s

About the Item

Though it looks and wears like a negligée, this wisp of a garment was an intermediate step between the chemise-style undergarments of the Victorian era and the separate bra and panties we wear today. Called “step-ins”, they made ideal sleepwear and were essential underpinnings for the lean, drop-waisted silhouettes of the 1920s. This one is especially rare as its abundant decoration dates it to the Edwardian era. *From the personal estate of department store heiress Estela Jácome.* Pink georgette step-in with full length inset lace trim down left and right center front panel and around leg holes; 2 ¼” scalloped lace trim around top bodice edge and tatted lace insets beneath breasts. Full-length pintucks down front left and right sides, plus decorative satin flower detail beside each breast. Fixed triple ribbon shoulder straps and matching ribbon tie at front waist. Step-in construction with no closures of any kind; unlined. fabric: silk georgette, silk satin ribbon, silk moiré ribbon, tatted cotton lace, rayon lace noteworthy: hand washable in cold water; lay flat to dry alterations: replaced original shoulder and waist straps with era-appropriate ribbon condition: excellent with above referenced repair measurements: neckline opening: 9 ½” across shoulder straps: 14 ½” (non-adjustable) bust: 47” waist: 46” hips: 52” leg opening: 30” circumference with 6 ½” side slits length: 37” from shoulder, 29 ½” from underarm label: Mona Vanna Silk Underpinnings size: vintage size 42; comparable to modern size large *please note lingerie of this type was worn very loosely around the hips and purposely hung low in the crotch; this is not a defect or the result of overstretching.
